MATT DEARIEA Southern California native, Matt Dearie found a passion for playing clarinet at a young age. His music career began during his middle and high school years in Temecula, with performances in the Inland Valley Symphony, Inland Valley Youth Symphony, Bravura Youth Orchestra, as well as musicals such as Bye Bye Birdie and Seussical the Musical. His diverse performance experience pushed him to continue his studies in the Clarinet Performance program at the University of Redlands, under the teaching of Kathryn Nevin. During his undergraduate studies, Matt performed with the Redlands Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Jon Robertson and Ransom Wilson. He was widely involved in the University's ensemble offerings, playing lead clarinet in both the Wind Ensemble and the University Orchestra while singing baritone with the Chapel Singers. Matt has also studied with Stefan Neubauer of the Vienna State Opera, Anthony Oliveras of the Vienna Residence Orchestra, and Alicia Lee, professor of Clarinet at University of Wisconsin, Madison.

GERARDO LOPEZBorn in Los Angeles, CA, Gerardo Lopez, or Gerry as he is known to his friends and
colleagues, began playing the flute at the age of 10 when he entered junior high school. He continued his music studies in high school, including private lessons with Dr. Wendy Rolfe and Lance Van Lenten at the Berklee College of Music. Gerry attended Pasadena City College (PCC), earning an A.A. in Music with summa cum laude honors. While there, he studied with Jamie Pedrini and was active in the orchestra and chamber ensemble programs. At the end of his time at PCC, he was awarded the Music Department’s highest honor: “Honors Extraordinaire.” Gerry transferred to the University of Redlands in 2015 and graduated in 2017 summa cum laude, with a B.M. degree in Flute Performance. At the University of Redlands Gerry studied with Artist Teacher of Flute, Sara Andon. He just recently completed a M.M. in Flute Performance at the University of Redlands with Ms. Andon. During his time there, Gerry also qualified to perform as a student member of the Redlands Symphony, under the direction of Maestro Ransom Wilson. He was fortunate enough to play on select RSO concerts over the span of three seasons. Gerry has also had the pleasure of being in recent master classes with Ransom Wilson, Jim Walker, Demarre McGill, Cynthia Ellis, and Sooyun Kim. |
MANUEL PEREZManuel J. Perez III is a Hispanic-American saxophonist, performance/multi-media artist, and composer who focuses on the promotion and production of new music for the saxophone through experimentation and collaboration. Concerned with breaking down barriers, social activism, and working with “in-betweens,” his work often manifests in collaborations across disciplines and mediums. He has worked with the like of architects such as Ipek & Bahar Avanoglu on the interpretation and performance of dissection drawings as graphic scores and David Gersten on multi-disciplinary performance art collaboration at Arts, Letters, & Numbers’ Hinges Mirrors & Eclipses Festival, to visual artists such as Natasha Holmes and William Fillmore on FRSTRTN (2018), a confrontational electroacoustic improvisatory environment that addresses gun violence. In addition to interdisciplinary art, he has also collaborated with composer-performers such as Nina C Young, Anne Lanzilotti, Michael Harrison, Payton Macdonald, and Sam Torres in both the creation and performance of new works. Manuel holds a B.Mus. in Composition and Saxophone Performance with minors in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Redlands. He is a saxophone student of Eddie Smith, as well as a composition student of Anthony Suter and Mark Dancigers.
